What the garages are like here
Almost every original garage here is detached and reached from the rear alley, sized for a car far narrower than a modern truck. Openings of eight or nine feet are common and a straight swap frequently means a non-stock size. Alley access matters practically: our truck cannot always park at the door, and in this neighbourhood the alleys are genuinely narrow. Many of these garages have also been converted to living or studio space and back again, so the opening has been reframed at least once.
